The Last Bohemian in the Chelsea Hotel
IT IS STAGGERING TO CONTEMPLATE HOW MUCH OF NEW YORK'S CULTURAL HISTORY IS CONTAINED WITH THE WALLS OF THE CHELSEA HOTEL.
Built in 1884, it has been home to painters, writers, artists, drug dealers, addicts, prostitutes and weirdos.
Using interviews and rare archival footage, the film captures the mad magic of this famous and infamous Bohemian enclave.
Notable residents who have lived there would fill an entire book: Mark Twain, Andy Warhol, Marilyn Monroe, Leonard Cohen, Allen Ginsberg, Thomas Wolfe, Robert Mapplethrope, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Sid Vicious, Arthur Miller, Madonna, DylanThomas, Virgil Thomson (Busby's mentor,) Larry Rivers, Ethan Hawke, Patti Smith, Dee Dee Ramone, Edgar Lee Masters to name but a few.
